It's officially summer in New York, people. Temperatures are rising, and I'm pleased to report that the city's inhabitants are already parading around half-naked. (Most of these individuals are apparently unaware/unconcerned that they are not yet tan enough to do this.) While I love many things about summer, including the high hemlines, the heat is not one of them.
Actually... I made this cake based on Dorie Greenspan's Perfect Party Cake. But, somehow cakes calling for the method that mixes butter with flour and lastly with eggs just never finds favour with me. They refuse to rise well. I was slicing the cake, preparing to frost it....... hesitating.....
Any of you Instagram followers will know that I had the pleasure of spending last week in Iowa with a bunch of stellar farmers and bloggers learning all about...CORN! Lots and lots and lots of corn! It was a fabulous experience (which I will be telling you about soon in another post!).
I think I've found my sugar & sprinkles soul sister recently. I really do. The funny thing is, I had popped by Jessica's blog from time to time when I would spot her yummy treats linked by friends on twitter, but I didn't really get a chance to sit down and really take a good long look through her recipes until this past week.

I gotta say. I don't think it gets better than this. There are desserts. There are dessert drinks. Then there is Frozen Caramel Hot Chocolate. A league of it's own. Perfect for date night, or girls night, or a night watching movies with your cat (no? just me?), just perfect.
Last week we had something Asian inspired almost every single day. I have no idea what has gotten into us, but we are on a major kick. We had Lo Mein, Kung Pao Chicken, Fried Rice and these insanely delicious Chili Garlic Salmon and Broccoli Bowls. I cannot stress how easy this meal was.
Microwaves are amazing. They can take the drama out of cooking while providing you with delicious home made food. But, you may not be getting everything you could out of your microwave. If you are still using it to heat coffee and tea, or bust out those TV dinners, I've got some life changing news for you.
Kicking off Milkshake Week with a bang, spiked and salted and deliciously drizzled with a boozy caramel sauce that's utterly divine. Are you surprised that my first milkshake, on Monday morning no less, is wonderfully boozy? You shouldn't be. With my penchant for boozy baking it was only a matter of time.
This cake is where two worlds collide, old fashioned yellow cake and melted ice cream. Honestly, I'm not the biggest cake fan. I don't really enjoy dry, crumbly cake one bit. BUT seriously this cake is not dry at all, in fact, it is THE moistest cake ever, thanks to it being doused in Tres Leches, three full flavored milks.
