I wouldn't call this "flan"...its more of a flan-flavored cheesecake. My husband does NOT like traditional flan but he really enjoyed this. I would say this is an Americanized version of flan. That being said...its a VERY easy recipe and its very delicious!! I've made it for groups of people and everyone raves about it.

Using crushed almonds as a crust is something I never would have thought of, but it's a great alternative! I made this for a get together with friends and everyone asked for the recipe. I used caramel syrup instead of melting the caramels and it all ran off -- I'll stick to the recipe next time and use real caramel!
this is my first attempt for my husbands birthday today......wish me good luck only had two pans 9" hopefully it will be good Awesome! Imade this cake in the summer for a bbq party, and it was a huge succeess everyone lovedd the cake and i look forward to making it again.
I used an Oreo crust instead of the graham and it was very good. Next time I would use more vanilla extract and a bit less of the toffee bits. I also just bought a bag of Heath bits rather than chop up the candy bars, which made prep very easy.
I made this a couple years ago and it turned out perfectly. I tried ****** it again tonight and I ruined the meringue by beating it too long. That's what I get for not paying close enough attention to the directions. Luckily it still tasted good but was nowhere near impressive.
